RAVA UPMA

A popular Indian homemade breakfast, which is tasty, healthy and easy to make.

Serves: 2-4

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup- Rava/ semolina
  • 01 onion, chopped
  • 02 green Chilies, chopped
  • 01 inch ginger, finely grated
  • 01 carrot, grated
  • 1 and 1/2 cup Water
  • 3/4 tsp Ghee
  • Salt as per taste
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric pwd
  • 1/4 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Caraway seeds
★ For Seasoning:
  • 03 tbsp Oil
  • 01 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 3/4 tsp Urad dal
  • 01-02 dried Red chilies
  • few Curry leaves

DIRECTIONS:


  1. Dry roast rava until it turns slightly brown and hot to touch.(You can skip this step if your using roasted rava).
  2.  Heat oil in a pot over medium flame, add mustard seeds and when it splutters, add the urad dal, red chilies and curry leaves.
  3. when the dal turns golden  add the chopped onion, chilies,carrot, ginger and saute until the onion turns translucent.
  4. Add in cumin seeds, turmeric pwd,caraway seeds and give it a quick mix.
  5. Then add water, ghee and salt to taste. Taste the water and check for salt.( If it tends to be a bit salty,then it will be perfect after adding the rava)
  6. When the water starts boiling, reduce heat to low add rava gradually with one hand and keep stirring with the other.
  7. Once the rava absorbs all the water cover and cook on low flame for about 6-7 mins. DO NOT FORGET to stir in between.
  8. Remove from flame,garnish with some mint/ coriander leaves and it is ready to be served with coconut chutney, sambar and ect.
